LocumVentures: Humming Desert Alpacas and Meow Wolf (Santa Fe, NM)

Another few things that are super fun go-to adventures off the regular path are visiting Alpacas in Budaghers/Algodones (halfway between Santa Fe and Albuquerque) and of course the legendary Meow Wolf. These adventures happened quite a while ago, and it took a long time to getting around to this post, but totally worth it.

Humming Desert Alpacas

I randomly was googling things to do between Albuquerque and Santa Fe on a drive on one of my visits and discovered this gem: Humming Desert Alpacas. Of course I showed up just thinking I’d get to hopefully pet some Alpacas and instead discovered that not only is this establishment run by a former Veterinarian and her husband a place where new Vet Techs get some of their training, but also a world-class breeding ground for some gorgeous animals with values that reach into even the 6-figures. Rhonda taught me so much about breeding and the genetics of Alpacas and it’s made me even more excited to one day have my own… Also, she let me pick up a lil bebe named Teacup!

Meow Wolf

Founded in 2008, Meow Wolf in an unbelievable art immersion that started in Santa Fe by an artist collective and has grown into an other worldly experience with more than one location now including Las Vegas, Denver and Texas. It’s almost impossible to describe without going there but basically it’s a museum, that meets a rave, that meets time travel, that meets space travel, that meets the limits of imagination. I spent only 2 hours and went with a friend and their small human, so we basically ran around trying to keep up, but there’s lots to read, buttons to push and colors to explore; so, I imagine you could spend all day in there. It’s also used for a music venue at night sometimes and has a bar with small snacks and alcoholic drinks. Definitely, worth it.
