LocumVentures: Driftless in Wisconsin to An Ice Cave in Iowa

As locums has taken me all over the country, I can definitely say that Wisconsin was one of the last places I ever thought of visiting, well, at least this part of it. From the incredibly nice people, to the quintessential cheese and beer, to the gorgeous areas surrounding the Mississippi river, I was given an amazing opportunity at my locum job in La Crosse. Having time off during the day and only working or being on call over night, except for the weekend, allowed me the opportunity to venture far out from my call radius, so when I had the chance, I made a trip of it! Inspired by an acquaintance from Waukon, one day I decided to follow the river south and then headed west to see the towns of Lansing, Waukon and Decorah in Iowa! I learned after the fact that a large part of this area surrounding La Crosse, WI down to this part of Iowa is called Driftless Area – From what I could google, ““Driftless” indicates a lack of glacial drift, the deposits of silt, gravel, and rock that retreating glaciers leave behind.” Cool cool. Once I made it to Decorah, I ventured on a little hike in the town only a few hundred yards away from a brewery to explore an ICE CAVE. It’s FREE, so, you gotta do it, right?
