LocumVentures: The Blue Peninsula – Castine (Part 2)

Home to the Maine Maritine Academy, a historic town always on my radar to visit in Maine was Castine. Ranked by USA Today to be one of the “Best Small Towns in the Northeast” this quiet town is a must see for someone looking for midcoast feelings but quieter vibes, but maybe having some good weather would make things better. As usual, here is the map of my rough adventures. If you’ve followed along or explored any other parts of this blog, hopefully you know by now how much I love farmer markets, so of course I stopped at Bucksport Bay Farmers’ Market to find some garlic scapes and looped in the seasonal but awesome Naiad Country Brewery to add another dot to my Maine Beer Trail Map. If you’re looking for somewhere to eat down in Castine, unfortunately there’s not tons of options, but The Breeze and Castine Variety has decent food, albeit mostly fried… I’ll keep this post very short, as I got hit with less ideal weather and a slow start, but it’s enough for a full day trip if you take the time to move slowly, think mindfully, and enjoy the beaches in my favorite state, where things are “the way life should be.” But, if nothin else, the Dyce Head Lighthouse and little trail down to the beach is worth seeing, but the lighthouse itself is a private residence, for what that’s worth.
