LocumVentures: Fort Knox, Penobscot Narrows Observatory and Prospect/Bucksport

Did you know that Maine is home to a civil war-era fort on the Penobscot River called Fort Knox? Located in quaint little Prospect, across from Bucksport, and established in 1844 to protect against possible British naval invasion, this was a super neat little place to visit. Right down the same road in the same parking lot is the access elevator for the Penobscot Narrows Observatory – the TALLEST public bridge observatory in the world at 420 feet (128 meters). If you’re in Maine, you definitely need to swing by here and pay to go up in the observatory, definitely worth it. Then swing by Bucksport for a beer and a Banh Mi from Friars’ Brewhouse Tap Room! Right after my little adventure here, i headed up the road to Winterport to also venture to Penobscot Bay Brewery, hidden and also with a great winery attached.
